One of the biggest sources of stress on moving day is simply not knowing what is supposed to happen next. Families worry: “Will they be on time? Will they protect my floors? Will everything end up where I want it? Will they rush?”
After 15+ years personally leading jobs across every type of home and condo in Southwest Florida, I can tell you exactly how a well-run local move day works. This is our standard process — the same one we use whether it’s a senior downsizing in Estero or a family with a grand piano moving from Pelican Bay to Bonita Springs.
The 8-Step Moving Day Process (Exactly What We Do)
The complete structured steps are included with this guide in machine-readable HowTo format and match what you will experience on-site.
Our Non-Negotiables on Every Job:
- We arrive on time (or we call early if traffic is unusual).
- Protection goes down before anything moves.
- We work at a careful, professional pace — never frantic.
- You stay in control of final placement.
- We do not leave until you are satisfied with the walkthrough.
What You Should Do (and Not Do) on Moving Day
Helpful:
- It is the customer’s responsibility to pack their own small luggage or personal bag with any overnight or immediate essentials (such as chargers, toiletries, a change of clothes, etc.). We do not pack an overnight box or bag for customers. The customer is also responsible for transporting all prescription medications, keys, jewelry, cash, important documents, and other high-value items.
- Know your final placement decisions (or have one trusted person making calls).
- Offer water and be available for quick questions.
- Take photos of high-value items before we start (for your records).
Not Necessary:
- You do not need to help carry boxes (we are paid to do the work).
- You do not need to micromanage every placement — we will ask for direction on the important pieces.
- You do not need to feed the crew (though many families kindly offer).
Real SWFL Moving Day Examples
Example A – Senior move, Estero villa to Bonita 55+ community
Crew of 3 arrived at 8:15am. Full floor protection installed. Calm pace throughout. Keptakes and favorite chair placed first in new home. Donation load separated and delivered same afternoon. Final walkthrough at 2:40pm. Family reported “the calmest move they’ve ever experienced.”
Example B – 3BR condo, 9th floor Pelican Bay to single-story Fort Myers home
Elevator booked in advance. Extra padding on all walls and doors. Piano moved first with full board and straps. Kitchen unpacked and staged by 3pm. Complete walkthrough and sign-off by 5:45pm. No damage to unit or belongings.
Example C – Family home Golden Gate Estates with haul-away
Partial packing already done by family. Crew handled remaining items + garage donation/haul-away. Dump fee quoted and confirmed before loading. All usable items prioritized for local charity. Final paperwork included donation receipt.
Communication Standards
- Lead mover (often me) gives you a quick status update at natural breaks.
- We immediately flag any surprises (unexpected heavy item, tight access) so there are no billing surprises later.
- You have my direct cell number for the day.
After We Leave
Most families are functional the same evening. We remain available for 2–3 days for any small adjustments (a bed that needs one more tweak, a box that was in the wrong room, etc.). There is no extra charge for reasonable follow-up within that window.
Why This Level of Transparency Matters
We are a small owner-operated company. Our reputation in Naples, Fort Myers, and the surrounding communities is everything. The way we run moving day is the same way we run every part of the business: clear expectations, careful execution, and respect for your home and belongings.
You should never feel like you’re guessing what comes next.
